Our Story

We started Food Tours Europe after one too many disappointing “authentic” food experiences that turned out to be tourist traps. You know the ones — overpriced, underwhelming, and about as authentic as a frozen pizza.

So we set out to find the real experiences. The ones where locals actually eat. The cooking classes taught by grandmothers who learned from their grandmothers. The wine tastings in cellars that have been making wine for centuries.

We personally vet every experience on our site. If we wouldn't book it ourselves, we won't recommend it to you.

The Food Score

We created the Food Score to help you quickly identify the best experiences. Every experience is rated on four criteria:

  • Authenticity (25%) — Is this where locals go, or is it designed for tourists?
  • Value (20%) — Is the price fair for what you get?
  • Taste (35%) — Most importantly, is the food actually good?
  • Atmosphere (20%) — Does the setting enhance the experience?

We only list experiences with a Food Score of 7.5 or higher. Most of our featured experiences score 8.5+.

What We Skip

We actively exclude experiences that:

  • Are primarily designed for cruise ship groups
  • Use microwaved or pre-made food
  • Have too-good-to-be-true prices (there's always a catch)
  • Pressure you to buy products during the tour
  • Rush you through without time to savor
